I have been a fan of SKD Tactical’s PIG FDT (Full Dexterity Tactical) gloves for quite a while now. You can even check out our original in-depth review of them here. However, today I have an even greater appreciation for them since SKD Tactical has just officially released Charlie, a full-featured women’s version of the PIG FDT glove that has been in development for over two years. MOTUS was able to get our hands on a pair of Charlie gloves and test them out before they launched.
Over the past few years, we have seen an influx of women getting involved in shooting sports, training, and all around adopting the modern adventurer lifestyle of MOTUS. It is even exciting to see an exponential growth in women joining the MOTUS Tribe, and we continue to look forward to what these awesome ladies bring to the community. However, jumping into a predominately male driven industry, women have struggled (myself included) to find gear that fits our needs. I have a hunch that this will be a problem of the past, thanks to the companies who have made a huge effort to welcome and accommodate women who love to live life adventurously and to the fullest.
I am stoked to see companies like SKD Tactical jumping on board and making products that are both comfortable and functional for women. I was ecstatic when SKD Tactical first contacted me about testing out their new Charlie women’s gloves because I have constantly struggled to find gloves that fit well. When trying on a pair of shooting gloves, I repeatedly found that they had an extra inch at the end of every finger and consistently bound up from excess material around the palm. Most women know what I’m talking about and can definitely relate to this disappointment.
SKD worked very hard to make sure the Charlie design was well thought out and flattering for women. After spending some time in them, I can tell you personally that it definitely shows. Men and women alike look for fit and function when shopping for gloves. SKD Tactical’s design team worked to ensure that Charlie was a perfect fit for female hands by using gender specific patterns and models. Rather than simply rehashing yet another version of the classic Aviator Flight glove, the PIG design team partnered with a sports-glove industrial designer to ensure that all the sizing benchmarks for women’s gloves were met.
I’m happy to report that the Charlie gloves are by far the most comfortable, natural fitting gloves I have ever worn. The fit, combined with unmatched dexterity and range of motion, provides a glove that is not only comfortable, but highly functional. I have had the PIG FDT (Full Dexterity Tactical) Alpha gloves for over a year and have really enjoyed them, but always wished they were cut slightly differently and a little contoured to fit a women’s hand. Now, with the arrival of the Charlie version, that wish has become reality. I have no doubt the SKD Tactical PIG FDT Charlie glove will continue to uphold the proven track record of reliability and durability that SKD’s other gloves are known for and I look forward to using them even more in the months ahead.
If you would like to grab yourself a set of the new Charlie gloves from SKD Tactical, they retail for $42.95 and can be ordered directly from SKD’s website. The Charlie is available in sizes extra-small through extra-large and come in four different color options: Black, Carbon Gray, Ranger Green, and Coyote Brown.
