DPx HEST/F Urban Hits Kickstarter

While Kickstarter has proven to be hit and miss when it comes to launching new products, there are a few standouts that you know are going to be home runs. Yesterday, DPx Gear kicked off a campaign to launch their first all American folder – the DPx HEST/F Urban. The DPx HEST/F Urban is designed, sourced, built and backed entirely in the United States of America.

Pelton has already earned industry recognition for many of his designs and holds over a dozen patents for his DPx Gear products. If the final version of the HEST/F Urban is anything like their recently launched Oculus 3D, you can pretty much guarantee this knife is going to rock solid. The HEST/F Urban features: an American 6Al4v titanium alloy frame, S30V stainless steel blade, DPx Gear patented “Blade Notch”, integral ¼” hex drive, DPx Gear patented tri-gauge wire strippers, glass breaker, and deep carry pocket clip.

Weighing in at just 3.35 ounces, the HEST/F Urban measures 3.8 inches long when closed and 6.7 inches long when open. For Pelton, the DPx HEST/F Urban is a dream come true. In their announcement press release he states,  “I’ve always wanted to make a knife that was uniquely and totally American. And also one that lasted a very long time; what I would call an heirloom-quality knife. One that can be handed down from generation to generation.”

Kickstarter campaign backers will have their choice between three different editions of the DPx HEST/F Urban: Sterile, Bronze, or Mr. DP Edition. The Sterile version’s frame features a “battleship grey” heavy bead blasted finish while the Bronze version comes with an anodized bronze colored frame. The Mr. DP Edition features a machined Mr. DP logo with heavy bead blast finish in the frame. Each edition is limited to just 100 pieces and all of the knives are serialized and come with a certificate of authenticity. Campaign backers will also be added to a “Wall of Fame” on the DPx Gear website. Prices ranged from $275 for the Sterile Edition to $375 for the Mr. DP Edition.
