What do you get when DPx Gear Founder Robert Young Pelton and LionSTEEL owner Gianni Pauletta team up for a knife collaboration? You get the new DPx Gear Aculus 3D. Limited to just 100 units per year and sold exclusively through the DPx Gear website, this hard use, monoblock frame gentleman’s knife is carved from a single block of 6Al4v titanium.
After returning to Italy after the 2000 IWA show in Nuremberg, Germany, Pelton and Gianni began discussing the desire to create “the world’s simplest and most durable gentleman’s knife.” Pelton knew the knife had to be incredibly strong, lightweight, and elegant at the same time. After sketching out some concepts, Pauletta and his team at LionSTEEL went to work and put the new knife into motion.
After years of testing and refinement, the DPx Gear Aculus 3D is now a reality. The Aculus has a stonewashed, Niolox stainless steel blade and measures 3.26″. The handle is sandblasted 6Al4v titanium alloy and features a unique 3D diamond pattern for enhanced grip. The knife also has a deep carry pocket clip and tungsten carbide glass breaker with a replacement flat head screw. The entire knife is held together with only two screws. Overall length of the Aculus 3D is 7.71″, with a closed length of 4.33″. The knife’s name is derived from a Scorpion’s aculeus, which is the tip of the Scorpion’s stinger.
The DPx Gear Aculus 3D is currently available for sale on DPx Gear’s website. It has a MSRP of $400, but is currently offered as an introductory special for $350. For more information and details on the new Aculus 3D, visit the DPX Gear website, or check out the video below …
