If you’re looking to get off the beaten path and take a trip of a lifetime, look no further than Overland Expert’s Bolivia 4×4 adventure! Bolivia is known for its gorgeous scenery, ecological diversity, and incredible roads! Home to the world-famous Death Road, this trip promises to be action packed with tons of off-road driving and exploring. This 11 day adventure promises to give you the full Bolivian adventure while simultaneously improving your skill set as a 4×4 driver.
Travelers will start off in Cochabamba and begin with a four-hour drive descending from the Andes foothills to the heat and humidity of the jungle. After dining on fresh water fish, you’ll cross through a banana plantation and then catch a boat ride to a remote indian village where you’ll be guest of the locals and camp overnight. Day two will consist of fishing, wildlife observations, and more jungle driving as you make your way to Villa Tunari for an afternoon and evening of relaxing poolside and dining at a local restaurant.
On the third day you’ll climb out of the jungle and ascend to over 13,000 feet above sea level as you wind throughout the Andes mountains. After staying overnight in a hotel, you’ll head deep into Bolivia and go where few tourists ever travel – the Sacambaya River. Often impassable, this might prove to be one of the greatest driving challenges on the trip. Prepare to get muddy because you might be in for a long day. However, the reward at the end of the day is worth it as you’ll be staying at the 4 star Hotel San Bartolome where a hot shower and cold beer will be waiting for your arrival.
After a good night’s rest, it’s on the world-famous Death Road. Grab your camera, but keep your eyes on the road as this promises to be a bit of a knee shaker. No doubt you’ll be double checking your line, along with your seat belt as it’s a long ways down to the bottom. That night you’ll stay at the Hotel Jatata Inn before a full day tackling the Amazon Rainforest. Here you’ll find narrow roads that are both rough and muddy. Ever driven across a rickety wooden swing bridge that’s barely wide enough for a couple of people, let alone a truck? This is where you’ll get your chance!
The next few days of the adventure you’ll get to navigate some of the more rough and narrow roads of Bolivia. Between more jungle and epic views from the Andes, you’ll see it all. On the second to last day you’re in for a real treat as you visit Altiplano. This is where you’ll get a firsthand chance to see how the highlands Indians have lived for centuries. On the last day of the adventure, you’ll tackle one of the most remote roads of the entire adventure. Think of it as your capstone trail where you get to put your new driving skills to the test!
