As gear nuts, most of us are big fans of the multitool concept. It’s a single item that we can carry with us to perform multiple and varied tasks. Rather than lugging around a tool box, we can have one “go to” compact tool that’ll help us out regardless of the situation. Many of us even have multitools that are designed around certain activities, just like the Multitasker for those of us that enjoy shooting. Off-road enthusiasts are no different and WARN definitely understands that.
Along with their Cerakote coated Premium Winch Accessories that debuted at SEMA, WARN also released the all-new WARN PowerPlant 9.5 and WARN PowerPlant 12. For those of you that aren’t familiar with the PowerPlant, think of it as the perfect multitool for your truck or off-road vehicle. Combining a high-quality WARN winch and high-performance air compressor, the PowerPlant gives you two powerful tools in one.
When using the winch, the PowerPlant delivers power and performance. Featuring a three-stage planetary gear train for smooth operation and extreme duty sealing for the superior water resistance, the PowerPlant is available in both 9,500 lb. and 12,000 lb. capacities. The 9,500 lb. version, or PowerPlant 9.5, includes 125′ of 5/16″ wire rope. The 12,000 lb. version, the PowerPlant 12, comes with 80′ of 3/8″ wire rope. Both sizes feature a series-wound motor with thermal protection shutoff switch and an automatic load-holding brake for effective winch operation and positive operator feedback.
The high-output, on-board air compressor delivers 5 CFM @ 90 PSI and is perfect for airing up tires. Both the PowerPlant 9.5 and PowerPlant 12 will air up four 35″ tires in about eight minutes. You can also run non-continuous-duty air tools thanks to the onboard 1/2 gallon reservoir. The compressor’s air outlet works with quick-connect couplers so you can easily swap tools depending upon the job. Included with the PowerPlant is a durable 20′ air hose, quick connect couplers, a WARN-branded tire pressure gauge, and a dual air chuck. WARN provides a carry bag to keep all of the PowerPlant accessories organized and in one place.
Two other notable features about the PowerPlant series are the remote control and the increased corrosion protection. Each PowerPlant includes a hand-held remote that operates both the winch and the compressor. LED light indicators give feedback to the operator on motor temperature to prevent overheating during extending or heavy-duty winching scenarios. WARN knows that their customers use their winches both on the trail or on the job, neither of which are in a clean room. To increase the PowerPlant’s weather resistance, WARN uses all stainless steel fasteners and has added a new flat-black finish that is corrosion-resistant.
The WARN PowerPlant 9.5 and PowerPlant 12 are available online or through your local authorized Red Letter Dealer. The 9.5 has an MSRP of $1,599 and the 12 has an MSRP of $1,699. If you’re thinking about upgrading or adding a winch to your 4×4 of off-road vehicle this season, you might want to consider getting yourself the multitool of winches.
