Cascade Designs, the parent company of notable outdoor brands like MSR and Therm-A-Rest, has released a full line of waterproof device cases called E-Case. With our smart devices and camera phones traveling everywhere with us these days, the demand for products designed to protect them from the elements has grown exponentially. Companies like LifeProof have exploded trying to keep up with consumer demand.

E-Case, which is designed and manufactured in Seattle, features a 100% submersible case designed to lock out water, mud, and sand from our precious devices. Made from a PVC-free 600D polyurethane-coated polyester or 500D polyurethane-coated nylon, the E-Case is rugged yet flexible enough to easily adapt to your active lifestyle.

Full touch screen capability and side button manipulation is provided via an ultra clear urethane window. The device can easily be removed from the E-Case using their proprietary SealLock zipper. The SealLock is a self-energizing dual track design. When outside changes in pressure occur, like when the case is submerged underwater, it forces the seam to seal tighter.

Advanced waterproofing of the E-Case is done through the use of radio-frequency (RF) welding. A technology that has been around since the 1940s, RF welding creates a welded seam by running two pieces of material through a table press that applies pressure to the surface area. As pressure is applied, high frequency waves are targeted at the materials causing the molecules inside to excite and get hot. That heat, when combined with the added pressure of the press, creates a weld. E-Case cases meet IPX7 industry standards, meaning the case can be completely submerged in one meter of water for up to a half hour without failure.

E-Case currently makes two product lines, the iSeries and eSeries. The iSeries case is available for the Apple Nano, iPhone, and all generations of iPad including the Mini. Some iSeries cases can be ordered with an integrated 4-pole headphone jack as well. The eSeries line has a full range of cases for Android and Blackberry phones as well as tablets and e-readers. Both the iSeries and eSeries come in a handful of color combinations like black, olive, magenta, cosmic purple, and cool grey. Prices range from $34.95 to $49.95 depending upon your device and size. A multi-purpose case can also be ordered to protect your valuables and other small devices.

One of the nice features about the E-Case is that it doesn’t become a permanent fixture on your phone. As we all tend to be heavy device users, we’re sure there has been more than one occasion when your bulky cellphone case has gotten in the way or caused you frustration. With the E-Case, you can simply use it when your activity requires it and leave it at home or in your vehicle when not in use.
