Review: Hydrapak Stash 1L Collapsible Water Bottle

Whether you are on the go running errands or enjoying the great outdoors, staying properly hydrated is critical. Having a good water bottle is an important part of that process. My challenge has always been that I quickly go tired of lugging them around after they’re empty or I forget to toss an empty one in my pack when I’m flying so I can use it on my trip. This is where the Hydrapak Stash comes into play.

As you can see, the Hydrapak Stash packs down to almost nothing when not in use.

The Stash is a flexible, durable, and leak-proof 1L collapsible water bottle. When not in use or empty, the Stash packs down to roughly one-fifth of its filled size. It also only weighs 3.1 ounces, which is roughly 50% less than a traditional hard bottle of equal size. the large bail-handle makes the Stash very easy to carry and it works great for attaching to your pack with a carabiner. I will be the first to admit that the non-rigid sides of the Stash make it a little awkward to use at first, but after a few uses you’ll forget all about it. It just becomes second nature.

Hydrapak Stash

My Stash always at the ready in the top pocket of my Dakine Gemini 28L pack.

To collapse the bottle, simply remove the 63mm screw cap, and then twist the base towards the top of the bottle. Small tabs on the top of the bottle allow the base to snap into the top securely. Once collapsed, screw the cap back on and you’re ready to go. What I love about the Stash is that I can leave it my pack and I always have a water bottle at the ready. Whether I’m flying from point A to point B or headed to the range to work on my skills, I always have a bottle at the ready to fill up and keep hydrated.

A couple other nice features about the Hydrapak Stash is that it’s 100% BRA and PVC free. It can also be frozen or filled with warm water (up to 170°F). The large mouth is easy to drink from and it plays nicely with a variety of backcountry water filtration options if you’re filling up in the woods.

For size reference, here is the collapsed Stash next to an iPhone 5s and Red Oxx Rigger Wallet.

At $22.99, I think the Stash is a good value and I’ve definitely gotten a lot of use out of it in the few short months I’ve had it. In fact, I think I’ll be giving a few of these as Christmas gifts this year to some of my fellow road warriors and outdoor enthusiasts. The Stash comes in your choices of three colors: Blue, Lime, or Smoke. You can order direct from Hydrapak’s website or pick one up the next time you’re at your local outfitter.
