While part of our team was at Warrior Expo East in Virginia Beach yesterday, I attended the Agenda Show in Long Beach to see what was new in the surf, skate, and action sports market. With hundreds of notable and up and coming brands exhibiting at the two-day show, there was a lot to take in and see in the short time I was there. While there were a lot of companies doing some pretty cool things, here are four brands to put on your radar.
Based in southern California, RAREFORM launched in 2012 by friends Alec Avedissian, Ryan Judy, and Sho Rust. RAREFORM takes discarded billboards and upcycles the material into bags and accessories instead of having it head straight for the landfill. From backpacks and duffels to surf and paddle bags, each one of RAREFORM’s products is slightly unique and different. Their designs, which are manufactured in California, blend function and form nicely. Check out their Weekender Duffle. Nicely priced at just $49.99, this 53L duffle bag measures 24″ x 12″ x 13″ and is fully lined with grey nylon pack cloth.
MADSON OF AMERICA
MADSON, a relatively new company, is a design driven brand that focuses on manufacturing premium eyewear and accessories while providing their customers with quality and value. Their eyewear features clean lines with subtle details and design elements inspired by the southern California youth lifestyle. The MAGNATE, shown above, is made with frames that are injection molded and then both tumbled and hand polished for a high-quality finish. Available in both polarized and non-polarized lens, MAGNATE retails for $50. While their apparel line hasn’t been fully released yet, the preview we got at the Agenda Show featured a strong collection of graphic tees and shirts perfect for grabbing a cold beer with the guys or kicking back at your next summer bbq.
With a background in a product design and having spent the last couple decades launching products for large brands, the team at Wolfgang was looking for something different. Wildly passionate about spending time in the great outdoors and always having man’s best friend right by their side, they created a collection of American-made leashes and collars using American textiles and premium leathers. From their luxurious HORWEEN leather dog leash to their DUCKLIME collar, Wolfgang has many options to outfit your adventure dog with something that’s both high quality and made right here in the United States. At Agenda we got a sneak peek at some upcoming accessories that included leather-bound fishing journals, luggage tags, and wallets. We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on Wolfgang as they continue to grow.
Founded by Ryan Heuser, Athletic Recon was created to bridge the gap between technical athletic apparel and street fashion. A a self-proclaimed marathoner and endurance geek, Heuser grew frustrated with the lack of performance apparel that both was functional and actually looked good. Athletic Recon’s mission is to, ” … bring elevated design to those who demand as much of their gear as they do themselves.” Working closely with a professional athletes from a variety of fields, Heuser and his team have created a full athletic line featuring everything from workout shorts and pants to performance outerwear. A good place to start is their FIREBOLT shorts. Available in: Black, White, Camo, and Red; the FIREBOLT features four-way stretch and a sweat wicking poly blend.
